Modeling Connected Granular Media: Particle Bonding within the Level Set Discrete Element Method

The COSYMO group has just successfully published a paper in the Computer Methods in Applied Mechanics and Engineering (CMAME) journal on the implementation of the Bonded Particle Model (BPM) in the Level Set Discrete Element Method (LSDEM). This modeling technique will allow scientists to further understand the mechanics of granular media where individual particles adhere or fuse together. Applications of this model will span from geomechanics to material science to space technology and beyond.
